Age Of The Empires

This is a game that in my mind is truly a classic in the sense of the word. Classic like a movie such as "Gone With The Wind" one of those things you might have seen many times, but still want to see it again. Every since I bought this game, I never seem to get tired of playing it. Each scenerio seems like a new challenge every time I play this game.

Age Of The Empires was created by Microsoft and Ensemble Studios I first encountered this game thru a demo I downloaded from Microsoft, and once I played the one little level, I was hooked. In case you are not familiar with the Age Of The Empires game series, I will tell you about it. Age Of The Empires is something like the game Civilization. The one big difference however is the real time battle scenerio. You start out with just 4 villagers, and a town square. You must build living quarters for the new villagers arriving. gather wood, gather food, and gather earth minerals such as stone, and gold. You can then after you build up your inventory, move up to the next level. Each level advances your technology, and your ability to defend yourself from neighboring villages. The neighbors by the way are not too friendly. They declare war on you most times from the very start of the game. As you advance each level, your neighbors get more, and more aggressive towards you. Not to mention lions, and alligators trying to get you too. Instead of the usual just stand there, and get computer results of what you did, you have to tell your villagers, and war machines what to do. So getting on the move building up your inventory quickly as you can is the key to your survival. As you build new type of buildings, such as a storage building, grain storage, fort, etc. Each of these buildings also contain upgrades within to improve your chances of survival. The game is basicaly a heads up type view which is ok for me, because that 3D stuff gives me a headache.

Many other games have been made as spinoff of Age Of The Empires such as Age Of Kings, Age Of Mythology. However, if you want to get real familiar with the whole evolution of this game, then start out with Age Of The Empires. It is now available in the Gold Edition, and even though it is considered an old game these days, a lot of stores still carry it. Believe this, you wont ever get tired of playing this game.
